Image of the Week #15, October 31, 2011:
From: Painting plasma by Joseph Milton at Creatology.
Original source: OneLinerImage by Ed Munn: Kazan cat II, based on an 18th Century Russian satirical woodcut.
Inspired by the complex folding of the cell’s plasma membrane, retired biologist Ed Munn creates works of art that he calls “OneLinerImages.” They consist of a single continuous line that swells and shrinks to create silhouettes of familiar things: cats, leaves, anemones. In doing so, his works translate the hidden beauty of life to a form that non-scientists can recognize and appreciate.
