Social Interaction observation of African giant pouched rats, Cricetomys ansorgei.
The pouched rat in the center large section can visit the rat on the left or right.
The entire size of the social interaction apparatus is about 2 m x 1.25 m and about 60 cm tall. It is made of metal. This divided multi-chamber allows safe interaction between individual. Pouched rats may climb up or down the gratings but they can't really get to each other more than a swipe or a little nip on the nose. These observations were made while I was in Tanzania for #DispatchesDNLee field season1.
