I’ve been enjoying NOVA’s online series ‘The Secret Lives of Scientists and Engineers’. These short videos depict some lesser known aspects of the lives of cutting-edge scientists, their hobbies, passions and pastimes outside of the lab. Several of my friends have been profiled on the series, including Mireya Mayor, Hugh Herr and Crystal Dilworth. The videos are humbling and inspirational because they show scientists as ‘normal’ people with passions and personalities and quirky pastimes.

I particularly enjoyed the latest video featuring Crystal Dilworth, entitled simply: ‘Because Science’.

Check out the full series here.
