Algae-based biofuels offer a potential solution to many of the concerns related to corn-based biofuels in the United States, including the food-versus-fuel debate. In Colorado, Superior Ecotech has developed technology that grows algae using the carbon dioxide released through brewing beer. The team’s hoped to use their algae oils to produce cost-effective and sustainable biofuels. After winning the University of Colorado’s Cleantech New Venture Challenge, this student team will compete in the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Clean Energy Business Plan Competition in June.
