Science Online New York City (or #SONYC on online social networks) is a monthly event happening in New York City.

I like to think of it as another “franchise” of ScienceOnline. But this one is different in format – it is monthly (as opposed to annual) and has only one panel/topic per meeting, followed by networking at a local food/drinks establishment. It is also more ‘organized’ than #NYCSciTweetup which is quite informal.

The event is organized by Lou Woodley (Communities Specialist at Nature.com), John Timmer (Science Editor at Ars Technica), Joe Bonner (of Rockefeller and SWINY) and Jeanne Garbarino (Postdoc at Rockefeller, and a science blogger)

The next one will be on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from 7:00PM – 9:00PM – the topic is Reaching the niches: connecting underrepresented groups with science – sign up if you can attend.
