I spent this afternoon at a workshop on Rapid Media Prototyping, as part of ScienceOnline 2013 in Raleigh, North Carolina. So in the spirit of the session here is a rough and ready thing that I made…
It’s a timeline of photos taken by both Voyager spacecraft on their trip through the outer solar system and towards interstellar space. I used Timeline JS and a Google Docs spreadsheet, and all images and dates are taken from Wikipedia’s Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 pages. Most images were taken by Voyager 1 or 2 and all belong to NASA.
Let me know what you think! Would you like to see a more complete version?

I’m really old, but I didn’t get it until I happened to roll the cursor over the right side of the presentation space & found a popup scroll bar. Looks like a prototyping tool, to me…
Link to thisIt is a bit squished in in this post – try going here instead: http://embed.verite.co/timeline/?source=0ArctUJ2z2aridFV0ZmlhWjlRQ0wyUEh4cUdfZUlXMnc&font=Bevan-PotanoSans&maptype=toner&lang=en&height=650
Link to thisThat is much clearer to these old eyes – thanks!
Link to thisYeah.. for sure I want to see the complete version…
It was a great post, I’m a big fan of Carl Sagan because of “The Pale Blue Dot” and his inspiration was Voyager’s pics.
Thanks
Link to thisImages are super but too small. I wanted to have an up close look. I don’t see an image zoom
Link to thisMs. Oakes: You have a fine career ahead of you and I look forward to more of your work.
And BTW: those pix don’t belong to NASA. They belong to us. All of us. As NASA will tell you.
Link to thisThanks for all your comments! Really useful.
Sunny-Omer: Yep, I agree with you that zooming would be good. I’m going to try and expand on this idea when I get some time after the meeting, it might require a bit of code tinkering or finding a new tool to make it do more of what I want.
Tiagoacpereira: I totally forgot to include the pale blue dot image! Thanks for the reminder, it will make an appearance in the next iteration for sure.
